Pore morphology evolution and atom distribution of doped Fe2O3 foams developed by freeze-casting after redox cycling

Chemical looping water splitting systems operate at relatively high temperatures (450–800 °C) to produce, purify, or store hydrogen by the cyclic reduction and oxidation (redox) of a solid oxygen carrier. Therefore, improve long-term operation, it is necessary develop highly stable carriers with large specific surface areas. In this work, interconnected doped Fe2O3 foams are fabricated through freeze-casting technique submicrometric camphene-based suspension prevent Fe sintering pore clogging during redox operation. The influence dopant elements (Al Ce) over morphology evolution, performances examined. use an porous structure initial size above 100 microns shows significant sample densification, addition Al2O3 citrate method rapid formation Fe3O4 layer struts that diminish reoxidation rate step in processing.
